Desert Sun- 11/5/09
In hip hop this week we talked about all of the hip hop moves we have learned in class and also discussed/reviewed the 4 elements that make up hip hop. After our warm-up we worked on our style by just simply walking from one end of the room to the other. The class also learned a new move today called the “w” freeze. That is an easier one so everyone got it! Towards the end of class we worked on the hip hop routine we began learned last week and also added some more moves to it. We only have 2 hip hop classes left! Great job
Lomas Elementary School- 11/3/09
Today in hip hop we had our final class battle and I will announce the winner next week! Throughout these battles every student has done really well so it was definately tough to narrow it down to 1 winner. After that battle we started to learn a class routine. We learned 3 8 counts today which is a lot for them to remember but everyone picked up the choreography quickly. The students worked really hard today so we ended class with a game to brush up on all our hip hop moves we have learned so far! See everyone next week! Great job
Pueblo Middle School- 11/2/09
Unfortunately most of the class was missing due to other sports tryouts at school
good luck and hope that you guys did well! So for class we had a quick warm-up and reviewed the six-step, knee drop, and salsa rock. Then everyone was given instructions to come up with two different transitions to get to their footwork on their own. Each student did really well. After they showed each other their different ways to get from top rocks to the floor we then learned a freeze. It was tough but most of them got it! We had a freestyle circle at the end
good job!
Horseshoe Trails Elementary School 10/30/09
Today in class each student shared with the rest of the class what they were dressing up as for Halloween! After that we had a great warm-up and then reviewed some moves that we have learned the past few weeks. Today we started learning a hip hop routine which we will continue to work on and it will evolve until the last day of hip hop when we can perform it for our family and friends who come to watch! Unfortunately, during our learning today our music was drowned out by the kids club who is right on the other side of the dividing wall with their music for the play “Thriller” that they put on for Halloween. We had to stop our routine since I could not yell over the music and we played a hip hop game using our moves. At the very end we had a few minutes to have a freestyle circle! Good job today and only 3 more weeks left!
Desert Sun Elementary School 10/29/09
Today in hip hop everyone shared with the class what they were dressing up as for Halloween! After that we had a great warm-up and then reviewed a few moves we had previously learned. Towards the end of class we started to learn a brand new hip hop routine utilizing all of the moves we know. We are going to work on it these last few weeks and bulid it up so by the last week of class we can perform it for our family and friends who come to watch! Great job! 3 weeks left!
Pueblo Middle School Week 5- 10/26/09
Yesterday in class we worked on hip hop art again. I went more in depth about different styles the students can use and different and interesting techniques as well. Everyone practiced writing their bboy name using the techniques we discussed and every student came up with something differnt! It was great! After that we reviewed the 6-step and knee drop and also began to learn a new top rock called salsa rock. We had a freestyle circle at the end! Great job bboys!
Horseshoe Trails Elementary 10/23/09
In class on Friday we started out with a fun warm-up by playing a game. From there we worked on battling the rest of the class. We did our 1 vs. 1 battles and at the end of class we split the class up into two crews (teams) and they battled against eachother. They came up with their own crew names as well. Great job and we are going to moving on to learning a hip hop routine next week!
Desert Sun Elementary School- 10/22/09
Today in hip hop we had a great, short warm-up and then needed to review our top rocks (which was the first move we learned). It needed some more practice and we needed to drill it over and over again on beat with the music. Everyone did really well and I saw a great jump in improvment in just the 10 minutes we worked on it. After our top rock review we proceeded to practice battling again and the students were instucted to use only their hip hop moves that we have learned in class when they were battling another student. There were several great battles and at the end we split the class into two “crews” and had crew battles. The kids did great and now we only have 4 weeks of hip hop left..it has gone by very fast
Lomas Elementary School- 10/20/09
After one week off due to fall break, hip hop resumed! In class today we had a review of the most recent moves we have learned such as the six-step and zulu spin. A new move was introduced today called the knee drop. Eveyone did well with it and with more practice hopefully every student can master it! We talked about the art of battling again in hip hop and had 1 vs. 1 battles. The studens were told to really concentrate on utilizing the hip hop moves we have learned in class and putting them together to battle against another student. Great job today
Horseshoe Trails 10/9/09
Today in hip hop we reviewed what the students learned last week because I was not there. They had a substitute named Bonita who also teaches with All The Right Moves. They told me that last week they worked on top rocking to the beat (which is very important), learned the “w” freeze and also learned a plank freeze. So today we practiced the “w” freeze and plank freeze again. Also, battling was introduced to the class today and we spent the last 25 minutes of class having 1 vs 1 battles. Everyone did really well and it was a great chance for them to do their best and really practice their hip hop moves! No hip hop next friday due to a half day! Great job
Desert Sun Week 7- 10/8/09
Today in hip hop we reviewed a lot! We talked about all of the moves we have learned so far in hip hop and remembered the four elements that make up hip hop what it is. We practiced our zulu spins across the floor and also the knee drop, which is a transitional move to get from standing up to the floor for footwork. At the end we practiced battling again and everyone did really well
No hip hop next Thursday due to a half day!
Lomas Elementary School Week 5- 10/6/09
Today in hip hop we learned about an important aspect of hip hop; battling. The students learned how to behave in a battle and also some tips and basic do’s and don’ts. After learning and talking about battling we then practiced it and had 1 vs. 1 battles. Most of the students tried it and did really well
After that we then divided the class into 2 crews and they had to come up with a crew name. Only one crew decided their name today and it was the Electric Rattlers! Each student practiced writing their crew name or bboy/bgirl name in street art and everyone did really well! No hip hop next week due to fall break!
Pueblo Middle School Week 4- 10/5/09
Today in hip hop we did something a little bit different! We talked about the history of one of the other important elements to hip hop; street art. After learning where it came from the students were instructed to come up with their own bboy or bgirl names and then practice writing their names in street art. Everyone was really creative and did really well with today’s instructions! No hip hop for the next two weeks due to fall break and staff development day! The next time we will meet is October 26th!

Desert Sun Elementary School Week 6- 10/1/09
Today in hip hop we worked really hard! After our quick warm-up we reviewed the zulu spin which we learned last week. This was a harder move for some of the students but everyone seems to be picking it up really well. We also drilled (continually practiced) the other moves we have learned the past 5 weeks. The new thing we worked on today was battling. Battling is an important aspect of hip hop and we talked about the students’ behavior in a battle and what to do during a battle. The students then practiced 1 vs. 1 battles with each other and did really well
I was very impressed & cannot wait for next week! Good job!
Lomas Elementary School Week 4- 9/29/09
Today was our 4th week in hip hop at Lomas. Class was run a little bit differently today and instead of dancing we worked on and learned about hip hop art. Everyone made up bboy or bgirl names and then they were instructed to write their name in hip hop (street) art. The students also were called up 1 at a time to use my dry erase board and I taught them some different techniques that can be used when practicing hip hop art. Every student was really creative today and did really well with this project. Next week we are going to spend half of the class working a little bit more toward developing our hip hop art skills.
Pueblo Week 3- 9/28/09
Today was a great day in hip hop! We talked a little bit about what we are going to be doing next week and learned some history of hip hop art. Then we had a short warm up and started learning the 6-step. I was so proud because everyone picked that move up really fast and it is one of the harder ones to learn. After practicing the 6-step for 20 minutes I then taught the students the knee drop which is a transitional move from standing up to going into foot work. At the end we had a freestyle circle for a few minutes and then class ended. Everyone put in hard work today!
Desert Sun Week 5- 9/24/09
Today in hip hop we had a review of everything we have learned so far! After warm up we practiced our russians, drop freezes, half sweeps, and top rocks. After that we learned a new move, the zulu spin. I was so proud, everyone learned it correctly after a few tries! At the end we played simon says with our hip hop moves and had a freestyle circle so some of the parents could watch us dance! Good job today!
PUEBLO ELEMENTARY: WEEK 3 (9/22/09)
Today we worked on our half sweeps, top rocks, and connecting them all together. We also learned a new moved called the knee drop to transition to our footwork. Class was full of energy and had a great time, there working hard and picking up the moves pretty well.
Lomas Week 3- 9/22/09
Today was our 3rd hip hop class and so far the class is going really well! After warm up we had a small review of the previous two weeks specifically narrowing in on the move we learned in week 2, the half sweep. The half sweep is the 1st step in a new move we learned this week called the 6-step. The 6-step will probably be one of the most challenging moves we learn in the entire 12 weeks but every student seemed to grasp the concept of it, if not the whole entire move! Today we also learned the zulu spin! At the end we had an introduction to what we will be focusing on next week, hip hop or “street” art. We briefly discussed the history of it and I asked the students to come up with bboy or bgirl name for next week when they come to class since we are going to be practicing our hip hop art skills with our new bboy/bgirl names.
Lone Mountain Elementary: Week 4 (9/21/09)
Today we went over the different parts of bboying such as toprocks, footwork, freezes, and power moves. We went to work on our 6 steps and russians, were getting really focused on footwork and with a little more practice we can move on to different types of footworks, but over all it was a good class and went smoothly.
Black Mountain Elementary School: Week 4 (9/18/09)
We went on to work on our six step a little more, were slowly getting there but time and practice will help us in the long run. We went on with finding the beat of a song and also grooving with different songs that we listened to. Over all it was a good day and learned alot. hope to improve over the next weeks.
Pueblo Middle School Week 2- 9/21/09
We had a great 2nd class at Pueblo today! We started out with a quick talk about the elements of hip hop that we learned last week and some students who were not there the 1st week learned them for the 1st time today. From there we moved on to a good warm up to get our hearts beating fast. The moves we reviewed from last week were rocking, top rock, russians, and drop freezes. Then we learned 3 more new moves today; half sweep, full sweep, and zulu spin. All of the students are doing excellent and are really grasping the technique of the moves. I cannot wait for what is in store next week! Great job!
